The Pioneer is an English-language daily newspaper published in India, first issued on 2 January 1865 in Allahabad, Uttar Pradesh. It is the second-oldest English-language newspaper in India still in circulation, after The Times of India. Founded by Sir George Allen as the first British-owned and British-edited newspaper in northern India, it is the only newspaper in India to have had two Nobel Prize in Literature laureates on its staff: Rudyard Kipling, who served as assistant editor (1887–1889), and Winston Churchill, who was its war correspondent on the North-West Frontier in 1897.
