The book is al-Sadr's attempt to deal with the problem of induction, and ultimately establish a common rational logical foundation and ground for the natural sciences, and faith in God. This is as indicated by the subtitle of the book: "A New Study of Induction That Aims to Discover the Common Logical Basis of the Natural Sciences and Faith in God".
