The Siege of Basra was a siege engagement fought between the armies of the brother of Karim Khan Zand, Sadeq Khan Zand, and the local Ottoman governor of Basra who was subordinate to Baghdad's Pashalik. After multiple assaults and failed interventions by both the British and Omanis, the city surrendered on 20 April 1776 and remained under Zand occupation until 1779, when Karim Khan Zand died.
