Karl Julius Platzmann was a German botanical illustrator, writer, and bibliophile who published exact facsimile editions of rare early missionary books related to several American indigenous languages. Platzmann first studied as an artist, and travelled to Brazil, where he created hundreds of botanical illustrations.
