His most recent major UN assignment was as the Special Representative of the Secretary-General and Head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya. From 2015 to 2018 he was Executive Director of Security Council Report. Since December 2024, he has been Chair of the Board of Trustees of the United Nations Association - UK.
