Hans Conrad Escher von der Linth was a Swiss politician, engineer, geologist and artist. He is best known for directing the federally approved project to regulate the Linth River. He also held senior political office during the Helvetic Republic and conducted extensive geological research in the Swiss Alps. As an artist, he produced more than 1,000 drawings and watercolours and was a pioneer of Alpine panorama art.
