Wikipedia Overview
Charles II de Luxembourg, count of Brienne was a French noble, prince étranger and military commander during the latter French Wars of Religion. The son of John III, Count of Ligny, he inherited the valuable county on his father's death in 1576. In 1583, he married a sister of Épernon, tying their two families together. Thereafter he became a client of the Épernon, and was desired by the duke to serve as Governor of Metz. He was created Duke of Brienne in 1587, extinct on his death.
