Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the conference was held on a smaller scale than in previous years. It was held under the motto Turning the Tide – Unlearning Helplessness. The event took place amid rising tensions between Russia and Ukraine. A few days later, Russia launched its invasion of Ukraine.
