On the morning of 28 December 2025, a mass stabbing took place near Richelieu, Commewijne District, Suriname. 43-year-old Dennis Aroma killed nine people and injured two others. The victims were his own five minor children, four of whom were killed, and six neighbours. The perpetrator was arrested after being shot by police. He died the following day in jail custody in a suspected suicide.
