The 2016 Chilean municipal elections were held on 23 October 2016 to elect the mayors and municipal councillors responsible for local government in Chile's 346 communes, which are administered by 345 municipalities. Each municipality is headed by a mayor (alcalde) and a municipal council of six, eight, or ten councillors, depending on the number of registered voters in the commune. Mayors and councillors serve four-year terms and may be re-elected indefinitely.
