The 63rd annual edition of the tournament began on March 13, 2001, with the play-in game, and ended with the championship game on April 2, 2001, in Minneapolis, Minnesota, at the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome. This was the last Final Four to be held in the Hubert H. Humphrey Metrodome, as it was demolished in 2014. A total of 64 games were played.
